Dax Shepard from NBC’s “Parenthood” series wrote, produced, directed, and stars in this raucous comedy of love, betrayal, zany hijinks with a cast including Kristin Chenoweth, Kristen Bell (Mrs. Dax Shepard in real life!), Bradley Cooper, Sean Hayes, Tom Arnold, Joy Bryant (who plays Dax’s wife on Parenthood), and Beau Bridges.
HIT AND RUN is the story of Charlie Bronson, played by Dax Shepard, a former getaway driver turned state’s witness, who busts out of the Witness Protection Program to drive his girlfriend (Kristen Bell) to Los Angeles so she can land her dream job. Their road trip grows awkwardly complicated after she finds out about his past through her jealous ex-boyfriend and moreso when they are chased by the feds (led by a gay Tom Arnold), and increasingly dangerous, when Charlie’s former gang of criminals (led by Bradley Cooper, who you will never recognize!) enter the fray wanting to get even with him for being a snitch and causing him to get butt fucked in prison.
“You mean some big black dude made you his prison bitch?”
“No, he wasn’t black! What difference does it make?! He was Filipino, ok?”
There are hilarious car chases, gay officers of the law everywhere you turn, and full frontal nudity, just to keep things interesting. The plot makes use of an App that gay guys use on their phones to find other gay guys for “socializing” which, in the movie is called “Pouncer” (instead of Pounder which is the real app), and becomes absurdly funny when the federal marshals and police officers all start pinging each others apps, indicating the presence of lots of gays within feet of each other, thereby discovering the truth about their comrades. Kristen Chenoweth plays a foul-mouthed, pill popping hilarious college administrator that is so different from her usual bubbly, perky happy characters she usually plays that it just amplifies the hilarity.
Hit & Run is in theaters on August 24. It’s a very funny movie!
