My Review- Snitch with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

My Rating: 2 Buckets of Popcorn- Good Movie Worth Seeing…

Based on a true story, “Snitch” is the story of how far a father will go to protect his son after his son gets arrested for doing a favor for a friend by accepting a package from a delivery man to hold it for his friend’s arrival. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays John Matthews, a successful, divorced family man who owns his own construction company and a small fleet of trucks.
Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson is John Matthews, a desperate father willing to do whatever it takes to get his son out of a life in prison.

When he receives the call that his teenage son has been arrested, John Matthews’ life gets turned topsy turvy. This action packed drama was written back in the early 2000’s to highlight a new United States Federal drug law that mandates minimum Federal sentencing guidelines to the courts for all drug trafficking offenders, that allows lesser offenders to reduce their sentences by cooperating with the Federal authorities to bring about the arrest of the major drug lords and cartel leaders. When his buddy, Craig, contacts Jason to plan a visit, Craig asks Jason to accept a package for him, but Jason is unaware that Craig has been arrested by the drug authorities, and is setting him up to be falsely arrested in order to reduce his own sentence.

Susan Sarandon is the ambitious U.S. District Attorney who makes a deal to reduce the sentence.

When the prosecuting attorney offers Jason the same opportunity they had offered Craig in order to reduce his own sentence, Jason refuses to put any of his friends in the same situation that Jason has put Craig in. With his eighteen year old son facing possibly ten to twenty years in prison, John Matthews proposes a deal to the U.S. district attorney, played by Susan Sarandon, to help them arrest a drug kingpin in return for the reduced sentence for his son.

With no prior contact or experience with the drug world, John scours through the job applications of his employees to find someone with a background that involves drug activity, which leads him to Daniel James, a new employee who admitted on his job application to being a felon with two arrests involving drugs. Daniel is trying to start his life over again after being incarcerated and recently paroled. When first approached by Matthews with the proposition tothat aid him in tracking down a drug kingpin, Daniel’s first reaction is to turn down the offer and keep his nose clean. However, when Matthews raises the offer to $20,000.00, Daniel sees this as an opportunity to provide a better home in a safer area for his wife and son, so he reluctantly accepts Matthews’ offer.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Susan Sarandon, and Benjamin Bratt star in this drama based on real events.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has played many roles from being the “Tooth Fairy” back in 2010 with Julie Andrews to an explorer in “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” with Josh Hutcherson. He also has appeared in the last three “Fast and Furious” franchise movies, but this role is being called his best acting performance yet. Susan Sarandon plays the perfect bitchy, ambitious district attorney who will use anyone to advance her political ambitions, even sending John Matthews on an almost certain suicide mission with the Mexican drug cartel.

Even though it probably isn’t going to win any Academy Awards, “Snitch” is a good story line with plenty of action-packed drama that explores the dynamic of an estranged father-son relationship after his divorce, and the difficulties involved in juggling two families.

About BearChub4u

After 20 years of being in a sometimes happy, sometimes frustrated marriage, I decided it was time for me to stop living a life of lies and deceit and be true to who I really was, a gay man, and to start pursuing my own pathway to happiness. That pathway has had many high points and low points with many obstacles thrown at me by fate. While I have met many wonderfully sweet men over the years, some for short term relationships and others for brief encounters, my search continues for that one "Mr. Right" that I can be with long term, sharing everything in our lives together. to see who I'm searching for. Maybe it's you?
